Residency at GCU

I just wrapped up an artist in residence at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. During the four day residency, I taught to two master classes, two guest lectures, and worked with 16 graduating dance students setting an 8 minute piece of choreography. The piece "Uprooted" was co-created with the dancers, who also chose the title. The dance explored the themes of leaving and returning home and moving into a new phase of life. The dance was inspired by Martha Graham and my own decolonial practice of centering aesthetics of the U.S. Southwest in my pieces. Thank you Grand Canyon University for supporting this Arizona-based Latina working mama choreographer's work. I had a great time working with such talented, enthusiastic, and disciplined dancers.
