Premiere of Mis Amores Fronterizos,

On March 12, 2022, performing and visual artists from both sides of the US/Mexico border will present Mis Amores Fronterizos, the product of a multi-year collaborative, community-engaged research, and exploration process.

After a two year hiatus, I am excited to be co-creating new choreography with Las Fronterizas ensemble member Isis América Tovar. I am thrilled to be working with the incredibly talented dancers and dance schools from Douglas and Agua Prieta for the upcoming Las Fronterizas binational production of Mis Amores Fronterizos. The dancers from this border community are open and willing to take artistic risks, it is such a joy to work with them!

The show features new choreography by me with Isis América and a cast of dancers from Los Ángeles de Agua Prieta and Stage Dance Studio in Agua Prieta, Sonora and Bibi Danceur Academy in Douglas, AZ. The show also features choreography by guest artists Bibi Carson y Juan Luis Angeles González.

What: Mis Amores Fronterizos, When: Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 6:00 pm Where: Douglas/Agua Prieta Border Fence, West of Port of Entry Admission is free and open to all.

The Las Fronterizas Ensemble is an intergenerational team led by six mujeres artistas from Sonora and Arizona, working collaboratively across and between borders and art forms. Me, my company Safos Dance Theatre, and Sonora-based dance artist Isis América Tovar are the dance artists in the Las Fronterizas ensemble.

Support for this project has been provided by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, an agency of the State of Arizona, National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), and Arizona Humanities.
