Colorado College Reflection

In deep reflection on the first half of the year. ✨

Thinking back to this past January and February and the incredible dance students I worked with while I was a Visiting Artist in the Department of Theatre & Dance at Colorado College where I taught a dance production course.

We did so much over the course of three and a half weeks including at collaborative and community-based artistic process complete with:

Creating 9 new choreographies , including 4 solos by CC dance students

Creating a new dance film featuring community dancers from Pueblo, CO and a CC film crew led by Professor Skye Mahaffie

Collaborating with Dr. Andrés Carrizo and Instructor Schylar Woods and their 14 student composers who wrote the original score for the live performance and dance film

Interviews with community elder Gloria Martínez

Field trips to Pueblo, Garden of the Gods, and outskirts of Cañon City to shoot the dance film

The 45-minute dance, lovingly nicknamed “Piñón” premiered at CC’s Production Of Earth an Error on February 27, 2026. The show had a two-weekend run at Celeste Theatre in the Cornerstone Arts Center at Colorado College.
