PLAINVIEW FELLOW
2021
Yvonne Montoya was a 2021 Southwest Folk Alliance PlainView Fellow. During this fellowship, she conducted embodied ethnographic research in Agua Prieta, Sonora, México where she studies Sonora Bronco, a genre of Folklórico Mexicano with Maestro Juan Luis Angeles Gónzalez founding director of Ballet Folklórico Angeles de Agua Prieta.
Yvonne worked with Agua Prieta-based digital artist Ammi Robles to document the research and choreographic exchange.
Stories from Home dancers Ruby Morales, Esteban Rosales, and Emigdio Arredondo-Martínez accompanied Yvonne on this residency.

Yvonne Montoya is excited to announce that she is a 2019-2020 Dance/USA Artist Fellow. As a fellow, she presented at the 2020 Dance/USA Dance Forum APAP pre-conference speaking about Dance in the Desert: A Gathering of Latinx Dancemakers. More information about the fellowship can be found here.
PROJECTING ALL VOICES ARTIST FELLOW
2017 - 2018
Yvonne Montoya was a Post-Graduate Fellow in Dance at Arizona State University where she founded and organized the inaugural Dance in the Desert: A Gathering of Latinx Dancemakers. While at ASU she incubated new work, wrote the article Who Takes Center Stage?: Xicana Epistemologies in Contemporary Dance that was published in El Mundo Zurdo 7 in 2019, and was mentored by Liz Lerman.
